Dr. Mar Tintoré and Dr. Xavier Montalban.

The list, published by Clarivate Analytics, identifies the most influential experts, who are among the top 1% most cited in their specialty in various areas of expertise.

On Wednesday, November 15, Clarivate Analytics has published the list of the most cited scientists during the year 2023. This is one of the most prestigious rankings among the international academic and scientific community. This year, within the category of Neuroscience and Behavior, Dr. Xavier Montalban and Dr. Mar Tintoré have been selected.

Montalban, director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Catalonia (Cemcat), Head of the Neurology Service at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and of the Clinical Neuroimmunology research group at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), has published more than 800 research articles, in internationally prestigious journals, and received more than 52,000 citations. Since 2018, he has been on the list of most cited researchers. "With this one, it is 6 consecutive years being part of the list, a fact that is a very relevant milestone in my professional career", he declares. "The number of citations of a paper is a recognition of its importance and quality. Over the last three decades, at Cemcat we have carried out high-level basic and clinical research to advance our knowledge and treatment of multiple sclerosis".

For her part, Dr. Mar Tintoré, head of care at Cemcat, clinical head of the Neurology Department at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and principal investigator of the Clinical Neuroimmunology group at VHIR, emphasizes, "every patient counts, and we will continue working until we find a way for everyone". "Throughout my professional career, I have developed, in particular, the study of prognostic factors, child and adolescent multiple sclerosis, as well as family planning in women with multiple sclerosis. Being listed in Clarivate Analytics is a reward for the work I have done". Tintoré has published 311 articles, cited more than 17,000 times and also appeared in the ranking last year.
