Lumbar puncture is one of the tests used to diagnose multiple sclerosis, along with magnetic resonance and other analytical techniques. The lumbar puncture test is performed at the centre itself, at the Walk-in Clinic, and involves extracting fluid from the spinal cord (cerebrospinal fluid), and analysing it to ascertain whether it reveals the anomalies inherent in multiple sclerosis

Lumbar puncture serves to detect the presence of oligoclonal bands, proteins that suggest the inflammation of the central nervous system, and which could be a sign of multiple sclerosis.
